Vancouver Airport Authority has announced significant changes to passenger and visitor services at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) as a result of preliminary findings of the Airport Authority’s internal review of circumstances surrounding the death of Robert Dziekanski at YVR on October 14, 2007.

Moved and inspired by the tragic death of Robert we have decided to establish a Civil Rights Movement in Canada so that his martyr death is not in vain. Our primary goal is to bring immediate justice for all those responsible – RCMP officers and YVR authorities. It is also essential to review police practices as well as all government YVR agencies.
Our far-reaching objective is to reinforce, protect, and maintain civil and human rights in Canada.
Canadian Civil Rights Movement (CCRM) is non profit and apolitical organization open for all organizations and individuals who share our views. We want to act as an umbrella movement which will: focus on information flowing through the internet, initiate and organize the public’s reaction and response and address federal and provincial governments and elected officials with issues of our concern.

Ottawa – In response to the tragic death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski, Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj (Etobicoke Centre) arranged a meeting this Wednesday between Canadian-Polish Congress President Władysław Lizon and Public Safety Critic MP Ujjal Dosanjh and Official Opposition Leader Stéphane Dion. During Wednesday’s Question Period, Official Opposition Leader Dion opened his questions by demanding to know why Prime Minister Harper had not set up an independent investigation, leaving it up to the B.C government to “call its own inquiry into the tragic taser death” and failing to show “leadership at the federal level.” Lizon, Wrzesnewskyj and Dosanjh discussed this issue in detail during Question Period and were joined by the Liberal Leader afterwards. All underscored how profoundly concerned the Polish Canadian community and the broader Canadian community was about Mr. Dziekanski’s tragic death.

The tragic death has hit all Canadians on a personal level, said Liberal MP Borys Wrzesnewskyj.
“This country is built on ethics and values. It shocks all of us – a country of immigrants – that authorities could just snuff out the life of someone so vulnerable,” Wrzesnewskyj said.
If it had not been for the video the truth would never have been known, Aga Magdolen said at the protest.
“We have been mislead and lied to. Imagine what it would be like, to be lost and not able to communicate and then to be abused by police. This death could have been prevented,” Magdolen said.

According to protest coordinator, Mike Mlynarczyk, “all of us, as Canadians, expect to see the authorities be held accountable for their actions. We want answers from our government. We should not have to wait months until inquiries and probes get completed. The public needs to know that this needless death will not happen again.”

As of the date of this complaint, the video has been returned to Mr. Pritchard clearly repudiating the RCMP’s original justification for withholding the video.
